The Great Recession has wreaked havoc on many sectors, with some bouncing back smartly (finance, energy and Canadian real estate) and others still stuck in a quagmire of confusion and dim hope.  Among the latter group resides much of mainstream North American media.

Who would have predicted that newspapers would shed as many as one in three jobs to date or that network TV would slide so far so fast?  The recession certainly exacerbated what was already in play....but what’s next?

Marketers rely on insight, instinct and experience to make sure their message is getting to audiences in the most relevant and effective medium.  Join our experienced media panel on Thursday, March 25, for a rousing discussion on the Canadian media landscape.  What’s happening in media currently and, importantly, what will happen next as the ground continues to shift in ways few of us could have foreseen?

We will explore topics relevant to all marketers, such as:

  •  What are traditional media outlets doing to reinvent themselves?
  •  Who will gain ground and who will lose it in the long term?
  • How is media coping with so much less advertising revenue?  Will media spending return or will it migrate elsewhere?
  • Are newspapers going to continue to be replaced by online?
  •  With so much pressure on revenue, how will media be able to afford to create insightful content?
  • Are magazines going the way of newspapers?
  • Will television continue to fragment?
  • How will radio evolve?
  • What should marketers expect from media going forward?

Following the initial panel discussion, you will have your opportunity to explore media trends in small discussion groups and, of course, interact with our panel (TBA).
